Okay, so if you haven’t read On Fire by John O’Leary, STOP what you’re doing right now and go download it on audible.
I don’t always listen to books on audible… but when I do, it’s because there is just something so dang special about hearing this particular story in HIS voice!
I’m telling you, it will change your whole life! Just ask my husband, he’s been transformed and thrown into a whole (positive) crisis of faith over what he heard from just ONE hour of hearing John speak while we were in Maui.
Since then, Thomas and I have started listening to the book. It’s the second go round for me, and man, it’s still just as dang impactful. Maybe even more so than the first time I listened to it. We listen when we drive to the store, or to church. It doesn’t have to be about setting aside giant chunks of time to listen or read, you guys, but MAN… the impact reading has on your head, heart and soul is just immeasurable.
Anyway, the reason I’m writing today is because John really got me thinking about WHY we do anything that we do in this life…
The how can be complicated, the skills can be fuzzy, the path can get really messy and filled with obstacles, but at the end of the day it really just starts and ends with WHY!!!
Why do you work hard? Why do you do it when you’re tired and don’t feel like it? Why do you persevere when things get hard- because things always get hard? Why do you wake up day after day and keep the hope and continue to push? Why would you continue to put service to others AHEAD of your own desires?
As John says… “Because God demands it, my family deserves it, and the world is STARVED for it.”
This just rocked my world yesterday on the way to the grocery store. YES, on the way to the grocery store!! That’s the beauty of personal growth… it can happen in the most simple of places, if you’re only just focused on it and intentional about what you’re feeding your mind. I could have continued listening to the talk radio that was on. I could have listened to some music and just zoned out. But instead, I listened to something that feeds my heart and soul.
I recommend you do the same! You won’t regret it.
But how great is this line:
Because God demands it, my family deserves it, and the world is starved for it.
That is just dang true. It doesn’t matter how it’s going to happen or how many obstacles you’re going to face as you pursue what’s in your heart- your God given potential and purpose- it only matters that it starts with the why!!!
So if you’re struggling to gain perspective today on some hard crap that you’re facing (and lets face facts… when are we not facing hard crap?), I hope this helps you. I hope you feel encouraged. I hope you are motivated…
Step out in faith. Be bold. Be DAREful out there. Move towards your greatness in whatever way you can. And remember, it’s not about how you’ll accomplish it… it’s about why it matters that you do!
God demands it. Your family deserves it. And the world is starved for it.
